UMBRA COFFEE TABLE v.2

Chosen by Kanye West's architecture team for the backstage of the artist's Istanbul concert, this furniture collection follows a line outside conventional design patterns. Bringing together raw materials, functional minimalism and unusual geometries, metastudio meets Ye's raw design approach on common ground.

Inspired by the tour stage of Ye's album Bully and the destructive energy of the cult manga Akira, the stainless steel sphere at the very centre of the design stands for Neo-Tokyo's famous blast zone. The custom extra-clear gradient glass passing through the sphere, with its centrifugal spread, gives form to the radial energy wave travelling outwards from the moment of the explosion.
